Update January 2014

We are delighted to report that we now have a new Ethos Forum, whose remit will be to take over from the Ethos Self-Evaluation Committee (ESEC) in progressing the Ethos Self Evaluation Report Action Plan.

The members of the Ethos Forum are:

Parent representatives:
Caitriona Brady – Chairperson
Cillian McCarthy – Secretary
JC Durbin

Teacher representatives:
Helen McClelland
Catherine Smith

The Board of Management Representative:
Karen Flynn.

Three pupil representatives from the Student Council were also selected randomly and will work closely with the two teacher representatives.

The role of Communications Officer has yet to be filled from the above members.

Many thanks to everyone who put their name forward for a position, we hope you will all stay involved in the process.

Please let us know if you are interested in being involved in a special project team. These are teams that will work on specific short-term actions throughout the life of the Ethos Forum. Further information on special project teams will be circulated throughout the school community following the first meeting of the Ethos Forum and at intervals over the coming year. If you would like to be included on the list of people available for special project team work, please contact the school office at contact@gresystoneset.ie and your name will be forwarded to the Ethos Forum chair. Pupils will also be involved in special project teams to ensure inclusivity at all levels of this work.

In January 2012, our school began an Ethos Self-Evaluation process in partnership with Educate Together.

This means that we consulted with parents, pupils, staff and the Board of Management to identify areas for celebration and areas for improvement with regard to the school ethos.

The evaluation covered the taught ethos (Learn Together curriculum) and also the lived ethos, in other words, how the principles of Educate Together are implemented and experienced by all members of the school community.

In addition to providing us with a picture of where our school is at in terms of taught and lived ethos at a particular time, evaluation findings and the process itself often lead to additional support and training being provided by Educate Together to groups within the school community.

Below are links to the Report Summary (published in Feb 2013) and to the Action Plan. These pdf documents will open in a new window.

In January 2014 we will be establishing an Ethos Forum to further progress the Report recommendations and Action Plan throughout the school. Further information to follow soon!
