We are so busy this month working on projects and artwork for Multi Cultural Day. Our class have been learning about South Africa.
The girls have been very interior designers, designing the artwork on our Ndebele House.
The boys have been builders this month building a Ndebele House.
Well done to 5th Class and 6th Class who have been very successful representing our school GETNS in GAA tournaments this month.

Cat and Dog Portraits
This month we have been discussing Bullying in SPHE. We made posters on Bullying to make people aware.
Our Artist this month was Jackson Pollock and American artist. We looked at some of his work and created our own Pollock Style paintings by splashing and dripping and throwing paint on our pages on the floor, just like Pollock.
Elements of Art – Shape & Space Pictures
We have been discussing our similarities and differences.
American Independence Flags
This month in History we are learning all about the American Revolution. We have been learning about George Washington and the Boston Tea Party.
Our New Resolutions for 2017
This month we are learning about Personification, what it is and giving an example of it. We created Personification Characters.
We got great news this week, our first week back to school after the holidays. Róisín’s doodle for Google got picked to go through to the next round. She is in the final 300.
Well done Róisín!!!
Nearly time for holidays and we are busy out in school doing Christmas themed work.
Some of us wrote Iconic Stories about Christmas on the laptops.

We have been learning about Verbs in Grammar and Hyperboles in Figurative Languag Below we wrote stories with verbs and hyperboles.
We drew the Grinch in Oil Pastels.

I hear Hyperboles, we listed to 15 different songs and we had to pick out hyperboles.
This month our theme of the month has been about Ancient Greece. We have been very busy learning about it in school and creating projects on it at home.
Here we are presenting our projects to our class. We had models, powerpoints, a film, posters, and even some Ancient Greek recipes.
We entered the Doodle for Google Competition this year. Here are some of our entries.

In Learn Together this month we did the Christian Bible story Adam and Eve
After reading about different Greek myths we worked in pairs to create our own.
Pandora’s Box Storyboards
We learned all about the different Mythical Creatures of Ancient Greece. We picked our favourite to draw in oil pastels.
We learned about the Greek Alphabet and wrote our names in Greek.
Ancient Greek Vases we drew and painted.
We made clay Medusa’s in Art with our student teacher Margaret.
We also have been working on Narrative Writing.
We created settings.
We learned about the Greek Gods & Goddesses. We created fact files on them and drew symbols to represent them.
We have started to learn how to play the tin whistle.
After learning about the Olympics in Ancient Greece, we created vases inspired by the Olympians.

Maths Art – Jasper Johns
We looked at an artist who incorporated maths into his Art. We created our own number art.
Maths Trail with Carla’s 2nd Class.
We designed a trial for a younger class to do around the school. In pairs we took Carla’s around the school on the trial.
3D Hand Art, more work on Line.

This month in History we have been learning about farming through the ages. We looked at tractors long ago and tractors today. We used our imaginations to design tractors of the future.
This month we have been learning about “Line” as one of the Elements of Art. We experimented with different lines and Created Line Hair Pictures.
The Gardaí came to visit the two 6th classes this month to talk to us about being safe at Halloween.
We have been learning about different types of Nouns in Grammar; Abstract, Common, Proper, Pronoun and Collective Nouns. In groups we created Giant Animals. We wrote down as many nouns as we could think of. Proper Panda, Abstract Alligator and Common Cat.
As part of Space Week we linked our English Writing Genre with Science and we learned about Neil Armstrong.
We wrote a recount piece on him.
Group Projects on the Planets
We have been very busy this week for Space Week.
We did Science Experiment Stations based on Space; Oreo Moon Phase, Marshmallow Constellation, Moon Craters, Making a Balloon Rocket and Making Moon Sand.
We learned about Picasso this month as Our Artist of the Month. We created Picasso style faces.

In Learn Together this month we have been learning about the Jewish Celebration Rosh Hashanah. We tasted apples dipped in honey like the Jewish people do to celebrate Rosh Hashanah.
In Figurative Language this month we are learning about Idioms.
Our theme this month was Europe. We having been learning about the European Union and Countries in Europe.
As part of our homework we had to research information on a country in Europe and then in class we did a project on it and presented it to the class.
We did maths stations on 2D Shapes when we had finished the 2D chapter in our book. Check out the fun we had below.
This week in maths we are covering the topic 2D Shapes. We have been learning how to use tangrams. A Tangram is a Chinese geometrical puzzle consisting of a square cut into 7 pieces which can be arranged to make various other shapes.
We have been learning about Adjectives this month in Grammar.
We worked in pairs to write adjectives about each other.
Learn Together this month we have been discussing
“Sense of Self” e.g. paying compliments to ourselves, developing our identity.
We had to pretend we were looking in the mirror and we had to write 5 compliments to ourselves
Following on from last week’s learning about Onomatopoeia’s.
We created our own Onomatopoeia Pop Art.

This week we have been learning about the colour wheel, tints, shades and values.
We are learning about Onomatopoeia’s this month.
In groups we had to brainstorm as many onomatopoeia’s as we could.
We have been very busy at Maths already this year.
We worked in pairs and groups on Probability.
We have also done great work on Place Value, we can write Place Value in word form, standard form and expanded form.
In Art we created Selfie’s of ourselves on Tablet’s.
Our first Writing Genre this year is “Recount Writing”.

In English we have been learning about Silent Letters. We worked in groups to come up with as many words as we could for silent letter such as b, h, l, k, g.
This month in Art we will be looking at Self Portraits and exploring different types of portraits. Below we drew ourselves as Minions.
First week back to school and we did some maths about ourselves.
