Greystones Educate Together N.S. was initially conceived in 2007 by several parents looking for a multi-denominational educational alternative in the Greystones area. The original core group of parents spent months assessing the interest level, getting petitions signed and lobbying at both local and national levels.
A public meeting was held in Greystones on the 23rd October 2007 in Greystones RFC and was a great success. This was followed by a pre-enrolment launch which was held on the 17th November in Charlesland Sports Centre. The response was overwhelming and 235 children were pre-enrolled for different years. On April 24th 2008 The Department of Education officially sanctioned an Educate Together School for Greystones. At this point the Department of Education secured the site at Blacklion and scheduled the construction of the school.
Edel Bermingham was the first Mainstream teacher brought on and in July of 2008 Catherine Sadlier was hired as the Principal teacher two weeks after construction had started. The building was completed in 10 weeks and The Department of Education and Science handed the keys of the Greystones ET N.S. building to Educate Together on August 29th. Parents, staff and volunteers worked non-stop throughout the week end moving in all the furniture and equipment into the building in only two days. The school opened on Monday September 1st. Edel taught the first Junior Infants class while Catherine took charge of the combined group of Senior Infants and 1st Class.
