Today was a lovely day and ideal for melting out the moulds. We used a homemade flat pack kiln. This is made with a metal frame and insulation non flammable material. We used gas to heat it. The moulds were placed upside down on a rack with a tray beneath it to catch the wax. (This wax can be used again, we recycle materials any where we can).We then fire the moulds to change the clay into ceramic. This will make the moulds strong.
Here they are after the wax has been melted out. There is now a space inside the exact shape of the wax fish. They are now ready for bronze casting. How exciting!
