WhatsApp Community Guidelines

The school WhatsApp Community includes a range of groups designed to support communication, coordination and community engagement across the school.

To ensure all groups remain positive, respectful and useful, we ask members to follow the guidelines below.

Group Types Within the Community

Class WhatsApp Groups

Each class has its own WhatsApp group to support communication among parents/guardians.

These groups are:

  • Created for class parent communication
  • Not run or moderated by the Parents’ Association Committee (PAC)
  • Independent of PAC. However, some groups may include a PAC committee member in their role as a parent or guardian of a child in that class.

Class groups typically support:

  • Class reminders
  • Social coordination
  • Parent-to-parent information sharing

All class groups are expected to follow the school’s WhatsApp Community Guidelines outlined below.

PAC Interest Groups

The PAC also operates a number of general interest groups within the WhatsApp Community.

These groups are used to:

  • Share updates on PAC initiatives
  • Coordinate volunteers
  • Promote school-wide events
  • Support fundraising and projects

Joining an interest group does not create any obligation to volunteer — it simply ensures you receive updates if opportunities arise.

Community Guidelines (Applies to All Groups)

Be Respectful

Please always communicate in a respectful and considerate manner.

  • Use a kind and constructive tone
  • Respect differing views
  • Personal criticism or negative commentary is not appropriate

Keep Posts Relevant

  • Keep messages relevant to the purpose of the group
  • Avoid unrelated posts or forwards
  • Use the appropriate group for specific topics

School Matters & Complaints

WhatsApp groups are not the appropriate channel for raising concerns or complaints.

School or classroom matters should be directed to:

  • Your child’s teacher
  • The school office
  • School leadership via formal channels

Protect Privacy & Safeguarding

Please be mindful of data protection and safeguarding:

  • Do not share photos of children without consent
  • Do not share personal contact details without permission
  • Avoid forwarding messages or screenshots outside the group

No Commercial Promotion

In line with the school’s Commercialism Policy:

  • No advertising of products or services
  • No sales posts
  • No external fundraising promotions

Messaging Etiquette

To keep groups manageable:

  • Avoid excessive messaging
  • Use reactions where possible
  • Be mindful of message timing (early morning/late night)

Group Administration

PAC interest groups are administered by PAC volunteers.

Admins may:

  • Share updates
  • Moderate discussions
  • Remove posts where guidelines are not followed
