Panel inspired by ‘mould and cast’ fossils.

Today third and fourth classes worked on a clay panel, which we then cast in plaster. This panel will form the back of the museum cabinet, which will be part of the final installation.

Having explored fossils and casting with clay and plaster yesterday, the children chose natural forms from beaches, gardens and hillsides to press into the clay panel that we had rolled out.
The work that they did yesterday informed today’s process, as they really understood what objects would make interesting casts.

We divided the clay panel into four squares and poured the plaster into each. These will fit into the back of the cabinet.
Tomorrow the plaster will be hard enough to open the moulds to see the panels.
